Eveready power helps Suzuki to win by Richard Dwight The prevailing dry conditions and easier roughs in the now concluded monthly medal round at Victoria, that made the course play shorter and wider than originally intended witnessed ten golfers acquitting themselves creditably well to be impressive. Sidath Wettimuny and Srinivas Rao both played to a nett par 73 Nonoyama a steady one under, 72. Peter Bright and Sidath Hemachandra played to 71 and early leader on the board, Bo Lindberg to 68 with Hayakawa. The final placing however saw Sanjay Wettimuny as second runner-up, he could have done even better but for some careless errors on the green. Suzuki finished strongly to take the August months honours and the medal from Binupa Wijesinghe who was technically knocked back into second place on a count back after both players carded a brilliant net 66's.In the Ladies Event Niloo Jayatilake impressed most to lead all the way with a score of net 69 and is expected to do well in the on coming tournaments. The juniors recorded respectable scores which were the envy of many of the seniors. Sampath Hemachandra and Sahil Malhotra playing well for their net 77's and newcomer on the scene Salem here on holiday from Dubai also carding 77. Sidath Hemachandra outplayed his brother Sampath with a net 71. Right on course neck to neck were Sanjaya Wettimuny and Binupa Wijesinghe. Sanajay's slight lack of concentration around the course meant that he paid the penalty and missed out on his first junior medal at Victoria, whereas Binupa solid as ever with his elegant swing played a steady 39/39 for a gross 78 net 66 - a splendid effort indeed. |
