Drivers and Riders Gear up for McFoil Challenge Round Three

The final round of the McFoil Championship, organized jointly by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) and the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC) will take place this weekend (26th and 27th September) at the Pannala International Circuit.

A 3-race championship series, the McFoil Challenge has proved to be a great success with competitors and organizers alike. Round 2 was completed in the rain in July, and all parties will be hoping for better weather for the final round.

The championship consists of 4 events for cars, and 2 events for motorcycles. The motor car events are the Standard Mini event, Group A Cars 12-14 kg/hp and the 2 Formula Ford events.

Round 3 has attracted a full card of entries, with over 70 cars and 30 motorcycles due to take part. Additionally, there will be an event sponsored by AMW, as agents for Yambaha Motorcycles. This event will be supported by AMW with 6 riders form Japan also taking part. It is hoped that this effort will help attract new riders into the sport, and also be of value to existing riders as they can learn from the experience of the foreign riders.

In the motor car events, all the usual entrants are due to take part. In the standard mini event, Rohith de Silva is expected to seal the McFoil championship with victory in the event.

In the Formula Ford events, consequent to the increased level of entries, there will be two separate events, one for Formula Ford 1600cc (Pre 85) and the other for the Post '85 cars. In the event for Pre '85 cars, Michael Muthumani is a comfortable leader in the McFoil challenge, and he too is likely to be the Champion after the conclusion of Round 3.

The Post '85 event will no doubt be a thrilling race with the top names of Rohan de Silva, Dilanta Malagamuwa and Romani de Silva battling with the in form Simon Lourensz and young Dejan de Zoysa.

Practices will be held on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. The races will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday 28th and as with the earlier rounds, are expected to finish by 2 p.m. The sponsors McFoil have gone to great lengths to facilitate a spectacular days racing, and a suitable finale to the Championship.

The Pannala track is located one and a half hour's from Colombo, and provides spectators with great viewing locations around the track. The prize-giving for the event, and for the Championship will be held at the track, at the end of the days racing.
