SLC secretary Mohan de Silva in his opening address said that Sri Lanka were entering a new era 20 years after receiving ICC Test status.

Sri Lanka were granted ICC Test status in July 1981.

"We in Sri Lanka play cricket very often with a straight bat and we are confident that you (ICC president) will steer international cricket on the correct path and we look forward to your support and guidance," said De Silva.

ICC president Mani said that he had taken over the presidentship during a fascinating time for the game and added that ICC will pursue the promotion of the game as a global sport.
