Taj Television wins rights for England series Taj Television has been given the right to televise the forthcoming Test and one-day cricket series between Sri Lanka and England. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday signed an agreement for exclusive television broadcasting rights for an undisclosed fee with Taj Television. SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala said that the agreement was signed in the presence of ICC president Ehsan Mani yesterday. The agreement ended months of anxiety over who would cover the tour with WSG Nimbus also in the running for the coverage. WSG Nimbus are suing the SLC for US$11 million as damages after their three-year contract with SLC was terminated midway and given to Taj Television. SLC are currently negotiating with WSG Nimbus to bring down the cost of damages to a minimum and had even made attempts to sell the England tour to them. England who are due to arrive in November will play a series of three Tests and three one-day internationals. SLC have however announced that they will start the bidding process for broadcasting and television rights for a new three-year period by the end of the month. - [S.T.] |
