Prabhakaran meets area commanders by Ranil Wijayapala LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran yesterday summoned all LTTE area commanders in the North and East to the Wanni for discussions on the final draft of the LTTE's Interim Administration proposals. Sources in the Wanni told the Daily News that only the area commanders 'Colonel' Theepan from the Northern sector, 'Colonel' Pathuman from Trincomalee and 'Colonel' Karuna from Batticaloa participated at this discussion with Prabhakaran. The pro-LTTE Tamilnet Website reported yesterday that 'Colonel' Karuna along with two other LTTE leaders, head of Vinothan Brigade in the Ampara and Batticaloa, Jim Kelly Thatha and Amapara area Intelligence Wing leader Keerthy flew to the Wanni in a special Air Force helicopter from Batticaloa to Wanni last morning. According to sources in the Wanni, the meeting of the area commanders were scheduled for last night and LTTE Political Wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan were due to participate at this discussion. A delegation headed by LTTE Political Wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan are set to leave for Ireland on September 27 to participate at a peace seminar organised by Norway. Thamilselvan recently said that they would submit their final proposal for international constitutional and legal experts during their visit to Ireland prior to handing them over to the Norwegian facilitators who in turn will hand them over to the Government. Thamilselvan told the visiting Japanese peace envoy Yasushi Akashi that they would hand over their IA proposals to the Government in mid October. This is the first time the LTTE is obtaining views from its area leaders, international experts and experts prior to finalising any of their proposals. LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan after receiving the Interim Administration proposals from the Government had a week long visit in the East to educate the area leadership on the proposals. |
