The Governor of the Western Province has given instructions to appoint Mr. Ananda W. Jayawardene, the present Municipal Secretary of the Council, with immediate effect to the vacant post of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) in the Colombo Municipal Council. Mr. Jayawardene, making his debut in 1964, as an officer in the Local Government Service was promoted to the Administrative Service in the Local Government Service in 1980 and has served in the Galle district, as an Assistant Secretary in the Galle District Development Council until the abolition of the D.D.C. system. Thereafter he held the high post of the Municipal Commissioner of Galle and has rendered a long and distinguished service to the people of Galle. With the establishment of All Island Service, he was amalgamated to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, as a Class I Administrative Officer and served in posts of Divisional Secretary and as Additional Government Agent for some time. In 1996 Mr. Jayawardene was transferred to Colombo Municipal Council as the Municipal Secretary and served in that capacity until he is appointed to the post of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) of the Council. It is learnt that Mr. Ananda Jayawardene is one of the few most senior Class I Administrative Officers serving within the Western Provincial Council having profound knowledge in Local Government sector activities. |
