by Jayantha Sri Nissanka Minister of Human Resource Development,Education and Cultural Affairs Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku said that the Chinese Government has helped build a modern Cultural Centre to promote performing arts in Sri Lanka. He was speaking at a seminar to mark the 54th National Day of the Peoples Republic of China organised by the Sri Lanka -China Young Journalists Forum. He thanked the Chinese Ambassador Sun Guoxiang for his effort to donate the cultural centre. "A Chinese group of architects are now in Sri Lanka to prepare the plan", Minister added. The Minister said "we have made many mistakes in our history. But two correct things, we have strengthened our friendly ties with China and Japan". He said that after the cultural revolution Chinese felt that they can not achieve a higher economic growth with pure communist policies. That is why China opened its economy to foreign investors after 1978 with an economic policy suited to them. Chinese Ambassador Sun Guoxiang said that close relations between Sri Lanka and China developed centuries ago. "Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's recent visit to China will add a new chapter to our bilateral relations", he added. Dr. Krishan Deheragoda also spoke about Potential for a Strategic Alliance for the 21st century. |
