Ambalangoda "Daily News" Special Correspondent and President, Southern Province United Media Association W.T.J.S. Kaviratne has won the 'Tolerance Prize for Excellence in Journalism" for combating racism and discrimination awarded by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). Mr. Kaviratne has won this award at a competition for journalists of all categories launched by the IFJ in five regions of the world. He has also been the only journalist to win this prestigious award from among all contestants from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. In recognition of Mr. Kaviratne's unique achievement, the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House) and the Ministry of Public Administration, Management and Reforms have jointly sponsored a felicitation ceremony in his honour. The ceremony will be held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Public Administration, Management and Reforms, Torrington Square, Colombo 7. on September 25 at 4.30 p.m. Public Administration, Management and Reforms Minister Vajira Abeywardena and Mass Communication Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar will be the chief guests. Editors of several newspapers and several other journalists will also grace the occasion said Dharmasiri Ginige, Chairman, Felicitation Committee. |
