The Asia-Pacific Regional Human Development Reports Initiative (APRI) and the Human Development Resources Centre (HDRC) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will conduct a training workshop titled "Potentials and Challenges in Human Development Reporting: Operationalising Human Development Reports (HDRs) in Polices and Programmes" from September 24 to 26 at the Colombo Plaza Hotel. Attending the workshop will be staff of 17 UNDP Country offices in the Asia-Pacific region, government human development specialists from Bhutan, Cambodia, and Iran, as well as representatives of civil society in several other countries. Sri Lanka is represented by Director, Department of Census and Statistics Dr. Gamini de Silva, in addition to several senior experts on Human Development, and UNDP staff. The workshop will focus on strategies for strengthening policy advocacy through Human Development reports, using the process of human development reporting as a platform for building synergies between other policy initiatives of UNDP Country Offices. A multi-disciplinary team of resource personnel from Sri Lanka, Bangkok, Kathmandu and New York will facilitate the workshop. The workshop is conceived as a platform for cross-country sharing and collective exploration of critical concepts and issues of human development. It will provide the participants with an opportunity to develop strategies for translating messages of Human Development Reports (HDR) into programmes and policy directions, a press release said. |
