by Asanga Warnakulasuriya The controversy over the transfer of the Chilaw Head Quarters Inspector CI Ananda Alwis took a turn for the worse on Monday following allegations that the demonstration held seeking the latter's transfer was stage managed by interested parties. Chilaw ASP Roshan Fernando completely rejected allegations made against him that he had acted as a cat's paw of a politician. According to the ASP, the investigations carried out by him had revealed that the demonstration held in Chilaw town on Saturday against the transfer of the HQI Ananda Alwis had been arranged by the Chilaw Police itself where 103 people including three-wheeler and taxi drivers had participated in the demo. "The transfer was solely made on a request made by the OIC to the Police Headquarters Personnel Department through the SSP and the transfer therefore is completely legal, the ASP said. "When this was explained to the demonstrators, they dispersed peacefully", ASP said. Meanwhile when contacted by the Daily News, Ananda Alwis, now the Kegalle HQI said that he was compelled to take such a decision due to continuous political influence from a leading politician in the area. A special report prepared by the ASP Roshan Fernando is due to be handed over to the DIG. |
