by Sarath Malalasekera Seventeen Police men attached to the Chilaw Police received over Rs.2.95 million as rewards from the Police Department for their excellent performance in arresting 31 suspects involved in human smuggling with forged documents. Chilaw Senior SP Upali Ranasinghe who introduced the Police personnel to IGP T.E. Anandarajah, at a ceremony held at the Police auditorium said that the suspects were arrested when they were about to leave Sri Lanka for Italy on October 31, 2001 in a trawler in the deep seas off Chilaw. IGP T.E. Anandarajah approved the monetary rewards to Police personnel. The rewards to the 17 Police personnel were recommended by Crimes, Criminal Intelligence and Organised Crimes DIG Sirisena Herath. The seventeen Police personnel received cash awards of Rs.2.95 million from the IGP, Senior DIGs Gamini Randeni, Chandra Fernando, Indra de Silva and Jayatissa Herath. The seventeen Policemen attached to the Chilaw Police who received cash awards are RSI W.A.T. Sarathchandra, Sergeants Dharmasena, Ariyasena, RPS Arunashantha, Constables M. Madurasinghe, Ananda Rajah, Saman, Nimalsiri, Bandara, Adikari, RPCs Rohana, Dissanayake, Kithsiri, Premalal, Bandara and Fernando. |
