The Government of South Africa appreciates the peaceful environment in Sri Lanka resulting from the cessation of hostilities. Further, they have expressed their willingness to extend the fullest support for the development of peace in this country. The South African Defence Minister, N. M. G. A. Loccota expressed these views when he met Minister of Mass Communication, Imthiaz Bakeer Markar on his visit to Saudi Arabia. The two ministers met at the conference palace of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. The South African Defence Minister said that the South African Government's special attention has been drawn towards the efforts taken by the government of Sri Lanka and the public to restore peace. He said that the government of South Africa is keen to assist in development activities in the country after the establishment of peace and pointed out that the government of Sri Lanka has a responsible task to make this peaceful condition, a constant. Minister of Mass Communication Imthiaz Bakeer said the government's objective is to step towards a constant peace while being in this tentative peaceful environment of the country. The Minister appreciating the African leaders and movements for their efforts towards peace said that the government of Sri Lanka and himself reveres former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela and his performance. |
