Dr. Taraka Prasad, veterinary surgeon of the Department of Wildlife Conservation said that this hospital affiliated to the Ath Athuru Sevana at Uda Walawe National Park will be a boon to the department's work of caring for injured elephants. The Born Free Federation will also donate Rs.13 million worth of equipment to the hospital.

This includes a Land Rover Jeep.

Stranded and injured baby elephants are cared for at the Ath Athuru Sevana till they can be released into the wilds.
