12th shipping service to be launched The 12th shipping service operated within 18 months is scheduled to get off the ground on Friday, September 26, a press release from the Ministry of Port Development and Shipping said. Receiving emphasis on the efficiency and productivity of the Port of Colombo which now leads as the transshipment hub in Asia could be attributed to results of this improvement in the Port of Colombo. The Port of Colombo has achieved much in the reform and efficiency improvement as a result of the steps taken by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority on the instructions of Rauff Hakeem, Minister of Port Development and Shipping, said Chairman, Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake. "MV Cordonia" operated by one of the leading Shipping Lines in France CMA-CGM will make her maiden voyage to the Colombo Port on September 26. She is one of the seven ships connected to the "Bosphouus" Express Service. This service functions in the far East Mediterranean areas. It covers Ports such as Suez, Piraeus, Connstanza, Odessa, Kelang, Ningbo, Shanghai and Chiwan. The Delmas Line introduced 10 of its ships to the Asia-West Africa Service "ASAF" in February 2002. Evergreen introduced new service to West Coast Asia Europe service in April 2002. Hundai Samudra introduced six ships to Bombay Navashiva express service BNX in April 2002. APL introduced Red Sea express (REX) W/B in April 2002, Delmas MOL/P&O Ned joint service introduced 10 ships to Asia-West Africa Service (ACEA) East and West bound in May 2002. |
