Vajpayee to meet Bush in New York NEW DELHI, Tuesday (AFP) Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will meet US President George Bush in New York next week on the sidelines of a United Nations session but there will be no talks with Pakistan, an official said. Vajpayee leaves for a lengthy 13-day tour of Turkey, the United States and Switzerland on Tuesday during which the current crisis in Iraq, the role of the United Nations and global terrorism would figure prominently in his talks with world leaders. Foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal said no dates had been fixed for a meeting with Bush. He is also likely to meet Russian President Vladmir Putin after he arrives in New York on September 23. Vajpayee would address the 58th UN General Assembly session on September 25, Sibal said. In response to a question, the official said there would be no meetings with Pakistan at any level. |
