The Mahabodhi Society of India will commemorate the 139th birth anniversary of its founder late Anagarika Dharmapala with a public meeting at the Sri Dharmarajika Vihara, Mahabodhi Society Hall at Bankim Chatterjee Street, Calcutta, India on September 17 at 5.30 p.m. Ven. Pandita Pragnajothi Maha Thera will be the chief guest. Swami Tyagarupananda of the Ramakrishna Mission Vidya Mandir, Behir Math will be the Chief Speaker. Bhikkhu-in-Charge Maha Bodhi Society of India Ven. U. Gnanarathana Thera and the General Secretary of the Society Ven. Dr. D. Rewatha Thera will also be present. Administrative Secretary of the Mahabodhi Society of India T. K. Roy said:- Late Anagarika Dharmapala was a shining beacon to the Buddhist World since the late nineteenth century. He founded the Mahabodhi Society of India in 1891 and made Kolkata his centre of activities. Dharmapala revived Buddhism in India and spread it all over the world. He is remembered with reverence for spreading 'Noble Dhamma' to the Western World during his speech at the Parliament of World's Religion in Chicago in 1893. |
