by Sarath Malalasekera IGP T. E. Anandarajah opened a fully equipped police auditorium at the Criminal Record Division (CRD) at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo on Monday on Senior DIG Gamini Randeni's invitation. This project abandoned in 1993 was made a reality under the supervision of Director Logistics (Buildings) Division DIG Jayantha Paranathala, the IGP said. "I am proud of my men who contributed to build this building, perhaps, one of the best auditoriums in the world," IGP Anandarajah added. The IGP said a circular will be issued about the maintenance and the use of the auditorium. Initially the foundation stone for the project was laid by the then IGP Cyril Herath in association with then Senior DIG T. E. N. A. Goonetilleke and DIG Frank de Silva on the invitation of Senior SP M.D.C. Saparamadu on December 24, 1986. If the construction work was further delayed, the Police Department would have lost millions of rupees already spent and an opportunity of having a modern auditorium would have diminished, IGP Anandarajah said. |
