by Sarath Malalasekera Inspector General of Police T.E. Anandarajah yesterday directed Colombo DIG Bodhi Liyanage to deploy two special teams from the Intelligence Bureau and the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) to trace the hand behind the rash of posters featuring Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe which appeared in the Colombo city and submit a report to him within three days. Earlier, the Government instructed the IGP to conduct investigations to ascertain who is responsible for publishing these posters. Colombo DIG Liyanage said that he had instructed the CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda to conduct investigations and to ascertain who printed the poster and take them into custody irrespective of their positions. The special police team has been directed to ascertain the motive for displaying the poster with the picture of the Prime Minister. UNP General Secretary Senarat Kapukotuwa stated that the poster was a malicious attempt on the part of certain conspirators who are intent upon bringing the Government into disrepute. The poster had been printed and published without the knowledge and approval of the Prime Minister. |
