Kodak's 'Develop the Senses' launched Kodak Sri Lanka which launched their community development project 'Develop the Senses' in July this year, introduced the media to the Projects Social Ambassador Romesh Kaluwitarana at a media briefing at the Trans Asia Hotel yesterday. Kodak's Business Manager Distributor Markets South West Asia Cluster Awais Ahmed said that Kodak worldwide had a plan to launch community development projects such as Develop the Senses in all countries in which they have a presence. Already Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh have launched similar projects, Ahmed said. In Sri Lanka 'Develop the Senses' would be executed through the Kodak Express Network and Kodak's local distributors Millers Ltd. Explaining the mechanics of the project, Ahmed said that for every film roll that was developed and printed at any Kodak Express outlet in Sri Lanka Rs. 2 would be donated towards the project. This cost would be borne entirely by Kodak and Millers Ltd. and would not be part of the customer's cost. Kodak has committed a minimum Rs. 100,000 every month towards the project and to date, since the launch of 'Develop the Senses' in July, Rs. 200,000 has been donated to the Deaf and Blind School, Ratmalana. Social Ambassador to the project Romesh Kaluwitarana said that he was deeply committed to the cause and would do his utmost to improve the plight of the deaf and blind in Sri Lanka. "I intend to be hands on with this project and not be a mere figurehead, he said. Kaluwitarana said that several fund raising plans were in the pipeline and he would be actively associated with all of them. Ranjith Jinasena, Chairman Resource Development Committee, Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind, who are the financial beneficiaries of the project said that he deeply appreciated the gesture made by Kodak to provide a regular source of income by way of the Develop the Senses project to the deaf and blind community of this country. Kodak's Country Business Manager Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Graham Marshall were also present. |
