Indian cabinet okays privatisation of Delhi, Bombay airports NEW DELHI, Friday (AFP) India's cabinet cleared a proposal to privatise the international airports in the capital New Delhi and financial hub Bombay, which have the heaviest passenger traffic, an official said. It was not clear what percentage of equity would be sold to private firms, but media reports have said that the government is likely to retain only 26 percent equity and hand over the majority stake. Earlier the cabinet approved the country's accession to a treaty of amity and cooperation in South East Asia, bringing it closer to countries within ASEAN. India had said it would be willing to accede to the treaty in a statement at the first India-ASEAN Summit held in Cambodia in November, 2002. |
