Traffic arrangements for Mahanayaka Thera's funeral

The funeral procession carrying the Casket bearing the remains of Most Ven. Aggamaha Pandita Madihe Pannasiha Mahanayaka Thera will leave the Vajiraramaya, Bambalapitiya at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 13 for the state funeral at Independence Square. The procession will proceed along Vajira Road, Havelock Road, Thummulla, Reid Avenue and Independence Avenue to Independence Square.

Police headquarters said Traffic Police has made special Traffic arrangements to facilitate the procession. When the procession is due to begin vehicular Traffic will not be allowed to enter Vajira Road from the direction of Dickmans Road and R.A. de Mel Mawatha and Bullers Road and R.A. de Mel Mawatha. Vehicular traffic coming along by roads will be directed towards Dickmans Road and Bullers Road.

Vehicles coming to Colombo along Havelock Road will be turned to Jawatte Road from Thimbirigasyaya junction. Vehicles leaving Colombo will be permitted along Havelock Road until the beginning of the procession. There after they will be diverted from Thummulla junction towards Bambalapitiya along Bullers Road.

When the procession reaches Thummulla, vehicles coming along Bullers Road will be diverted towards Jawatte Road. Vehicles coming from Bambalapitiya along Bullers Road towards Thummulla will be diverted along R.A. de Mel Mawatha towards Kollupitiya, Queeens Road and JOC Mawatha. Vehicles coming along Thurstan Road will not be permitted to enter Queens Road vehicles coming along Thurstan Road from the JOC roundabout towards Thummulla will be diverted from Reid-Thurstan Junction towards Bambalapitiya to the opposite direction along Bullers Road. Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Reid Avenue from the following places.

Viz - Bullers Road - Stanley Wijesundere Mawatha to Reid Avenue, JOC roundabout, Rajakeeya Mawatha, Guildford Crescent, Cambridge Place to Reid Avenue, Nanda Motors junction to Independence Road About and Maitland Crescent, Maitland Place to Independence Roundabout. There will also be five vehicle parks for the convenience of the clergy, VIPs and the public attending the procession and cremation ceremony.

Car Park 1 - Opposite the Rupavahini Corporation - for Mahanayake Theras and leaders of other religious denominations.

Car Park 2 - VIP car park along the road leading from chief Ministers office to the Rupavahini Corporation for VIPs and members of the Diplomatic Corp.

Car Park 3 - SLFI Car Park and SLFI road - for members of the viharaya dayake sabha.

Car Park 4 - Public vehicle Park - Bullers Road for buses and Malasekera Mawatha for other vehicles.

Car Park 5 - Vidya Mawatha car park for back up vehicles of VIPs.
