New concessions to tea imports The Thai government will provide new concessions to tea imports from Sri Lanka on the advice of Thai Prime Minister Thakshin Shinawatra who wants it to be considered as a token of is visit to Sri Lanka from August 15 to 17, sources at Sri Lankan Embassy in Bangkok said. This was conveyed to Minister of Plantation Industries Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister-in-attendance to the Thai Prime Minister during his visit to Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who met the Thai Prime Minister at a discussion in Colombo urged him to consider providing concessionary market access to Sri Lankan tea imports to Thailand. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe who recommended Kiriella's proposal to the Thai Prime Minister, agreed to further discuss trade related matters for mutual benefit. Bilateral discussions between Sri Lanka and Thai officials are scheduled to be held on September 16, in Bangkok. |
