Lanka, Pakistan to combat human trafficking Interior Minister John Amaratunga arrived in Pakistan yesterday for a two-day visit to discuss counter terrorism measures and people smuggling, officials said. Amaratunga, who arrived at 6:15 pm will hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Faisal Saleh Hayat and top security officials today and return to Colombo tomorrow. Amaratunga and Hayat will sign an agreement on combatting terrorism, human trafficking and visa procedures, an Interior Ministry official told AFP. Amaratunga will also visit the offices of Pakistan's National Database Registration Authority, a citizens' database system set up by Islamabad in 1998. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Kurshid Mahmud Kasuri is due in Sri Lanka today. Kasuri will call on President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and deliver to her the formal invitation to attend the SAARC Summit scheduled to be held on January 4-6 next year in Islamabad. During his three-day visit, the Foreign Minister will also call on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando. AFP |
