YESL clinches three International Awards The Young Entrepreneurs Sri Lanka (YESL) was awarded the three best awards in the Bi-annual Global Awards Ceremony of Junior Achievement International held in Jimmy Carter Presidential Centre Atlanta - USA recently. Out of 112 member countries of Junior Achievement International and out of eight categories of awards YESL as the member-nation of JAI won three. The Platinum Individual Award is presented to a Junior Achievement / Young Enterprise professional, in recognition of these accomplishments, through events or activities, resulting in significantly improving the quality, impact or image of Junior Achievement / Young Enterprise in their country, region or the world. Premasiri Weliwita, Chief Executive Officer, Young Entrepreneurs Sri Lanka (YESL) according to Paul Ostegard the President and CEO of JAI, "has succeeded in all three spheres and selected for the Platinum Individual Award on his meritorious achievement." He said Weliwita has through his past experience in the education field, steered the program into the government owned school system progressively expanding year after year and engineered the private sector to meaningfully invest in the future of young people of Sri Lanka. The Platinum Individual Award which could be won only once in six years is a fitting recognition of his commitment and achievements. Junior Achievement International is pleased to announce this award and congratulate him." YESL won the Global Growth Award for the Highest Annual Five Year Growth - with a record of 178 per cent, out of all 112 countries. This prestigious award was won by Sri Lanka, within its five years of operations in competition with several long outstanding members from the developed and developing countries. Paul Ostegard - President and CEO of Junior Achievement International, announcing the award, hailed Sri Lanka (YESL) for its achievements amidst a civil strife and war in a larger part of the country. He said "YESL well deserves this award for its unequal record of growth by numbers as well as in quality." Patrick Amarasinghe - President of YESL received this award, in the company of Pathmasiri Dias - Vice President, Premasiri Weliwita - CEO and Ms Dayani Edirisinghe - Co-ordinator. YESL along with three other member nations also won the Growth Award for Sustained Growth for five consecutive years. Patrick Amarasinghe attributed this recognition to the team efforts of those who are committed to the program and acknowledged the capability of Sri Lankan children and teachers who are comparable with any other country. He also praised Premasiri Weliwita CEO for directing the program to this present status within five years. YESL is supported by USAID, private businesses and individuals. All programs are offered to students free. YESL covers 30,000 students in 300 schools to be trained in creating a pro-business mind set. |
