Business in brief ASPI up The Colombo Bourse indices reported mixed reactions yesterday with the ASPI increasing to 1,119.6 points from 1,116.6 from the previous day and the Milanka declining to 2,153.8 from 2,159.9 points the previous day. Turnover at the end of trading was Rs. 190 million. Large parcels of shares of SLT, Royal Ceramics, Asian Hotels, Taj Lanka and Connaissance were sold. Taiwan products at catalogue exhibition In order to strengthen trade links between Sri Lanka and Taiwan, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in association with the Taipei World Trade Centre is organising a Taiwan products catalogue exhibition on September 16, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Colombo Plaza Hotel. According to a Chamber spokesman, The Taiwan Catalogue Exhibition will feature a unique selection of products Catalogues. There will be over 200 Catalogues furnishing details of 5,000 products available in Taiwan. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said that the exhibition will provide an opportunity for local importers and manufacturers to identify the latest items that are available for import from Taiwan. During 2002, Sri Lanka imported approximately Rs. 2,264 million worth of mechanical, electrical and electronic items from Taiwan. Admission to the exhibition is free. Online Application Processing System for investors The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) has developed an online Application Processing System (APS) for the convenience of investors around the world. Having revamped their web presence with the launching of award winning www.boi.lk, BOI developed an online Enquiry Processing System, a platform through which anyone interested in investing in Sri Lanka could correspond with BOIs country desk officers. BOI has now launched the Application Processing System, through which potential investors can lodge their applications via the BOI website www.boi.lk. The system also enables one to make payments for application processing fees, annual ground rent, annual fees and agreement processing fees using their credit cards. The facility will enable investors who are overseas to send their applications to the BOI without calling over at the BOI office. It also enables existing investors to settle their invoices via the website through a secured payment gateway. |
