Sentra Super City launched

The Seneverathna Group launched its chain of supermarkets, Sentra Super City (Pvt) Limited, together with the Sentra Loyalty Card and Sentra Super Savings Deals.

Briefing the media in Colombo, Chairman Gamini Seneverathna said that todate Sentra's biggest strength and success results from the vast experience he gathered from his beginnings in Mirihana, where as Seneverathna Trading Company (Pvt) Limited, the trading activities allowed the company to take advantage of pricing structures and pass it on to the customer.

"We are one of the largest importers of sugar in Sri Lanka while also importing rice, lentils and other essential commodities.

Trading gave us an insight into the inner workings of the economy and we have always aimed at passing that benefit to our customers. Our competitive approach has forced other supermarkets to be competitive too, so we do believe that overall we are doing a service to people in general," he said.

With the introduction of the Sentra Loyalty Card and Sentra Super Savings, Seneverathna said that both methods will boost profits and brand loyalty.

"The redeemable points earned for shopping at Sentra will facilitate the identification of buying trends, which will avail us the opportunity of providing monthly special offers and promotions to select card holders. Sentra Super Saving is a monthly promotion that gives customers the additional saving of having a certain number of identified products available at discounted prices or even a free offer.

The redeemable points earned through the Sentra Loyalty Card will also have the added benefits of discounts at various shops and malls, hotel discounts and free stays as well as birthday and anniversary greetings to card holders," he said.

Seneverathna said that Sentra is one of the few supermarkets using IT at the supermarkets and warehouses streamlined to achieve maximum efficiency. "All branches are linked via lease lines to enable real time stock control and speedy reconciliation. In addition, automated bar coding ensures faster and accurate customer checkout, he said.

Seneverathna said that Sentra Super City will soon be expanding to Maitland Crescent, Colpetty and Rajagiriya. "The outlet at Maitland Crescent adjoining the CH&FC grounds will cater to the more sophisticated clientele of Colombo 7 covering over 8,500 square feet of supermarket space.

We will also have a supermarket in the heart of Colpetty on Galle Road with ample parking space and our biggest will be a mega complex in Rajagiriya along the Parliament Road by next year. This supermarket will be over 17,500 square feet and will have a multi-service concept including a shopping mall, cafeteria and a children's play area.

With a staff strength of over 400, Sentra already has supermarkets in Maharagama, Wellawatte, Rawatawatta and Kiribathgoda with fully fledged facilities ranging from groceries, meats, cosmetics, pharmacy and mini bank facilities and in the future aims to expand to a florist and laundry to provide customers with a wider more multi-faceted range of services.
