Investment options from HSBC

Striving to deliver a value focussed experience for the HSBC Premier clientele, a seminar on Investment Options was organised by HSBC recently at the Colombo Plaza Hotel. David J Evans, Regional Manager, Asia, International Funds Distribution, HSBC Bank International Ltd., an expert in this field, was flown down from HSBC Singapore for the event.

The presentation dealt with a comprehensive approach to investing, basic investment concepts, as well as the various investment options available in the market. Evans outlined the intrinsic rationale behind investing and the need to plan ahead to fulfill future expenditure and lifestyle needs. He said that a disciplined approach is crucial and highlighted the basic steps towards taking such an approach. Start early and start right? Evans said.

The simple steps towards making an investment should focus on identifying your financial goals, attitudes and priorities, matching priorities with the right investment, sticking to your investment strategy through market cycles and reviewing your financial objectives regularly to ensure that your investment suits your needs. The seminar explored several issues of interest such as the risk factor, the right time to invest as well as the benefits of Unit Trusts.

The past few months have seen an upsurge of activities targeted at the HSBC Premier clientele.

HSBC Premier customers were invited to a seminar on Personal Taxation, at the Colombo Plaza Hotel in May. This was held to provide an opportunity for customers to seek clarification on any issues relating to personal taxation and the new tax structure. Ms Premila Perera, Partner, Ford Rhodes and Thornton, one of the country's leading tax consultants made a presentation followed by a question and answer session. Yet another interesting event was the art auction held exclusively for HSBC Premier customers that featured the work of prominent local artists.

HSBC Premier is an exclusive, personalised, one-to-one banking relationship that offers priority personal banking, worldwide recognition and exclusive benefits. A total relationship balance of Rs. 5 million or equivalent, ensures privileged terms on deposit interest rates, fee waivers, special offers on loan products and remittance services in addition to your own Relationship Banker who will help you manage your financial affairs.

HSBC with over 9,500 offices in 79 countries and territories and assets of over US$982 billion at June 30, 2003, is one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations.

As the world's local bank HSBC is aware of the local customer's needs and values. In bringing such seminars and events for the exclusive benefit of its clientele, this becomes yet another instance where global expertise and local knowledge provide opportunities for the benefit of HSBC's customers.
