Tea sale average for August over Rs. 151 million LANKAPUVATH - Sri Lanka has earned over Rs. 151 million from the sale of tea last month. The total tea sale average of Rs. 151.15 million for August this year has recorded a growth of Rs. 5.94 million when compared with the Rs. 145.21 million average for August last year, a spokesman for Forbes and Walkers told Lankapuvath. The most significant growth has been from the low grown sector, which recorded a growth of Rs. 12.5 million when compared to the same period last year. Tea with improved liquoring characteristics attracted demand from U.K., U.S.A., Japan and the Continent whilst shippers to CIS and then Middle East operated the bottom end of the market. However, the total sale average of Rs. 144.89 million for January/August this year shows a decline of Rs. 2.90 million when compared with the Rs. 147.79 million average for the same period last year. |
