Consolation win for Sri Lanka under 19 by Chris Dhambarage The Sri Lanka under 19 team scored a consolation seven wicket win over the touring pakistan under 19 side in the fifth and final one day match played at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium yesterday. Pakistan under 19 batting first were dismissed for 183 runs in 37.4 overs and Sri Lanka under 19 made 191 for 3 in 36.3 overs after their target was revised to 191 runs from 38 overs according to the Duckworth Lewis system following a short interruption due to rain in the Pakistan innings. This was a improved performance from the Lankans after having lost the four earlier games to the visitors. Their bowlers stuck to their task and picked up wickets at regular intervals with newcomer Tharaka Kottahewa, Sudeera Soysa and Ganganath Ratnayake outstanding. Pakistan had collapsed to 128 for 7 at one stage but they were rescued by the two allrounders Salman Quadir and Riyaz Afridi. Salman Quadir hit a top score of 43 off 45 balls with a six and two fours while Afridi smashed 34 from just 18 deliveries with the help of three sixes and two boundaries. Sri Lanka under 19 in reply lost two early wickets but recovered well through an unfinished fourth wicket stand of 95 runs between Kaushal Silva and skipper Farveez Maharoof. The former was unbeaten on 63 made in 82 balls with six boundaries while the latter made 44 not out off 48 deliveries with a six and a boundary. Earlier opener Upul Tharanga led the way with a solid half century which included a six and six boundaries. |
