Indian defence team in Colombo by Ranil Wijayapala A 12 member Defence delegation from India commenced a five-day visit in Sri Lanka yesterday on the invitation of the Defence Ministry to assess the training requirements of three Armed Forces, an Indian High Commission spokesman said yesterday. The 12-member delegation comprises officials from the Indian defence industry, the Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force, the spokesman added. The delegation is expected to meet Defence officials and Army, Navy and Air Force officials in Colombo to assess the training requirements of the three Armed Forces. The visit of the Indian defence officials to Sri Lanka is part of ongoing cooperation between the two governments on security matters. The officials expect to visit training centres of the three Armed Forces. The current visit of the Indian Defence officials coincides with the Sri Lanka Army's ambitious drive to recruit 4,000 men. The Sri Lanka Army expects to provide extensive training for the new recruits as they have identified lack of training as a major reason for desertions. |
