Malwana group correspondent The Government has made arrangements to form Development Boards to improve the standards of schools, and as a trial, 80 National Schools have been selected to form these Development Boards, said the School Education Minister Suranimala Rajapakse. He was addressing a meeting after laying the foundation stone for a new three storeyed building at the Sapugaskanda Visaka Balika Vidyalaya on Monday. The Education Ministry's Navodhya project will construct the building. He said the assistance of the people would be expected for the progress of these Development Boards irrespective of political parties, so that these Development Boards could help to improve the schools. It is hoped to implement this in schools through the island. Minister Rajapakse also said, even though the Government was prepared to assist the schools, the conflicts of the Local Government have prevented this. So far the Government has been seeking the help to overcome this problem and to help them to continue with this. The Kelani Raja Maha Vihara Chief incumbent Ven. Kollupitiy Mahinda Sangarakkitha Thera, Zonal Education Director, Kelaniya Jayaweera Delpagoda, Principal Sapugaskanda, Visaka Balika Vidyalaya Mrs. D.L. Padmaseelee and Keerthi Indrajith also spoke. |
