by Nadira Gunatilleke The State Literary Festival 2003 organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Arts Council of Sri Lanka and its Sinhala, Tamil and English Literary Panels will be held on September 18 at 4.30 pm at the BMICH, Colombo. The names of the State Literary prize winners will be announced on September 4, Cultural Affairs Division sources said. Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya and Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr.Karunasena Kodithuwakku, President, Arts Council of Sri Lanka, Prof.Anuradha Seneviratne and the Director, Cultural Affairs, Lakshman Perera and several others will participate in this event. Special invitee Prof. P.B. Meegaskumbura will deliver a lecture. Cultural items, Sarasvati Abhinandana and Anklet (a dance drama) will also be staged during the festival. Several special literary programs will take place from September 15 to 21 parallel to the State Literary Festival 2003. Prominent film director Tissa Abeysekara will deliver a special literary lecture on September 15 at 4.00 pm at the BMICH, Colombo followed by screening of one of his unique films 'Karumakkarayo'. Prof. Kusuma Karunaratne and prominent writer Gunadasa Amarasekara will also deliver talks at this occasion. Two special literary lectures will be delivered by Prof. Sunanda Mahendra and journalist Karunaratne Amarasinghe at same venue on September 16 at 4.00 pm. Prof. Kusuma Karunaratne and Jayasumana Dissanayake will also speak. The annual International Book exhibition organised by the Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association will be held at the BMICH, Colombo from September 15 to 21 daily from 9.30 am to 8.00 pm. |
