by Manjula Fernando A key underworld member, one of the suspects of the Nalanda Ellawala killing was shot dead near the Dematagoda traffic lights, at the turn to Kolonnawa road on Thursday night. The Police said that they have not established a reason for the killing as yet. Two police teams from the Colombo Crimes Division and the Dematagoda Police have been deployed to hunt the killers. The gangster was returning from a wedding reception with seven of his friends, in a van at the time of the incident. The killers, two unidentified the gunmen travelling on a motor bike had fired two fatal shots at the man, who was driving the van, when they stopped at the traffic signals. Dematagoda Police HQI Chief Inspector Jayantha Liyanage said the incident occurred around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday. The man had succumbed to his injuries at the National hospital after admission. A police team headed by HQI Liyanage is conducting investigations. The Colombo Crime Division director SSP Lugoda has also initiated an investigation into the killing. |
