The annual get together of the past Voet Inners - the Voet Inn Night will be held on August 23 at the Voet Inn premises. President of the BCSL and Manilal Fernando, Vice President of the Asian Foot Ball Confederation and Chairman of Holcim Lanka co. Ltd., will be guests of honor. The A.G.M. will begin at 6.30 p.m. followed by the dinner dance. The Voet Inn is the Law College Hostel which provides accommodation to nearly hundred students. The Ceylon Law College was established in pursuance of the provisions of the Courts Ordinance of 1889. The absence of suitable hostel accommodation for students attending the institution soon began to be felt. Years of continuous agitation finally culminated in purchasing by the Law College authorities premises bearing No. 19 Barnes Place, Colombo 7. Thus Voet Inn was established almost 50 years back at Barnes Place. However in the 1981 the Voet Inn was closed down in order to arrange a spacious building as the law college Hostel. In 1986 the Voet Inn was re-opened in a newly built spacious building situated at No. 1163 B. Cotta Road, Rajagiriya. During its proud history of 50 years the Voet. Inn has accommodated some of the finest men and women of the legal profession such as Justice Parinda Ranasinghe, former Chief Justice, Justice Hector Yapa, Judge of the Supreme Court, Upawansa Yapa, former Solicitor General and also eminent politicians such as late Gamini Disanayake. |
