Janaka in remand custody by Kumudu Hettiarachchi The Colombo Fort Magistrate Sarath C. Karunaratne, in pursuance of an order made by the Dambulla Acting Magistrate on August 19, visited the Nawaloka Private Hospital, Colombo, yesterday (Aug. 20) and executed an order of remand against the PA Dambulla District MP Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, who is one of the five suspects in an incident of threats of murder on some UNP supporters in the Dambulla Electorate. MP Janaka Bandara Tennekoon, at the time of executing the order of remand was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nawaloka Hospital for a suspected ailment of cancer in the gullet, as informed to the Magistrate by the physician who treated the MP. The Colombo Fort Magistrate, having entrusted the custody of the suspect to the Remand Prison, ordered the Superintendent of Remand Prison to consult medical advice and admit the suspect to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment. The Magistrate also ordered the suspect to be produced before the Magistrate's Court of Dambulla on August 26. MP Janaka Bandara Tennekoon, against whom a warrant of arrest was pending before the Dambulla Magistrate's Court,submitted a medical certificate to the Dambulla Magistrate, through his lawyers, when two other suspects in the same case surrendered to Court on August 19. |
