Sri Lanka U-19 force a draw by Chris Dhambarage Opener Damindu Kularatne and Kaushal Silva scored contrasting half centuries as the Sri Lanka under 19 team forced a draw to their three day match against the touring under 19 side at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place yesterday. Kularatne struck 64 off 151 deliveries while Kaushal Silva completed a run a ball unbeaten half century as the home side reached 240 runs in their second innings after having resumed at 19 for no loss. Opener Kularatne concentrated more on occupying the crease and laid the foundation for a good second innings total. Kularatne and his opening partner Upul Tharanga took the score upto 39 before the latter departed after having made 13 runs with the help two boundaries. But Kularatne continued to frustrate the Pakistani bowlers with his solid defence and in the process stroked seven delightful boundaries. He found a good partner in Nadeera Nawala with the pair putting on the best partnership of the innings - 64 runs for the second wicket. Nawala became a victim of leg spinner Hidiyatullah who send down a marathon spell of 21 overs. Kaushal Silva produced probably the best batting of the day when he raced to an unbeaten 66 in almost the same number of deliveries. He struck seven boundaries and also figured in a third wicket stand of 53 runs with Damindu Kularatne. The two teams will now move to Kurunegala for the second three day match at the Welagedera Stadium which begins on Wednesday. |
