12 JVPers join UNP in Ruwanwella

Twelve members of the JVP and another from the PA have crossed over to the UNP in the Ruwanwella electorate. They were conferred UNP membership by Environment and Natural Resources Minister Rukman Senanayake at a special ceremony held at the UNP office of Ruwanwella.

Altogether 16 persons obtained membership of the UNP. The ceremony was organized by Sextus Arasakularatne, the Vice Chairman of the Ruwanwella Pradeshiya Sabha.

A.G.Ranaweera, who contested the Ruwanwella Seat on the JVP ticket at the Pradeshiya Sabha Elections of 2002 addressed the gathering after formally joining the UNP. He said that he dedicated his life to the cause of the JVP,but now he is convinced that the JVP has no policy beneficial to society and that it was misleading the masses.

Minister Rukman Senanayake expressing his views stated that each individual has the right to join and serve the party of his choice, but everybody should ignore party differences and unite to serve the country.
