Nearly 400 employees of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defence had the rare privilege of being subjected to medical investigations at a free medical clinic conducted yesterday (August 18) at the Ministry of Interior by doctors of the Police, Army, Navy, Air Force and Prisons Department hospitals. The employees who had about a week ago undergone pre-medical tests at the respective hospitals were personally checked by the doctors along with their investigation reports resulting in many employees unaware of the sicknesses they were suffering from receiving timely diagnosis and treatment. The medical clinic conducted by 14 doctors and 32 supporting staff was organized by the Welfare Society of the Ministry of Interior at the initiative of the Minister John Amaratunga. Minister of Interior, Amaratunga at the commencement of the clinic thanked the doctors and their supporting staff for taking time off from their duties to help the staff of the two Ministries. He said it was a noble gesture on their part to have helped in this regard. The employees would be provided medicine and other follow-up advice at the respective services hospitals. As far as he knew this was the first time such a medical clinic was held in a Government institution for the benefit of its employees, the Minister added. Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Christian Affairs M.N. Junaid, V. Virithamulla, Additional Secretary, Mrs. Chandra Ekanayake, Senior Assistant Secretary were present. |
