A UK Charity, the UK-Sri Lanka Trauma Group and the Sri Lanka Medical Association have organised a Conference on the Psychological Impact of Trauma titled Trauma and the Future from August 21 to 23. The keynote speaker will be Professor Ed Cairns. Professor of Psychology, University of Ulster. Northern Ireland who will speak on Psychological Interventions in Post Conflict Society, while the sessions will be chaired by Dr. Anula Nikapota, from the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College. University of London and the Chairman of the UK-Sri Lanka Trauma Group who will also make a presentation on Ethic in Trauma Research. From a local perspective. Professor Harendra de Silva Chairman of the NCPA will speak on Violence Affects All, while Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, Dr. Narme Wickremasinghe discusses the issues of reintegration of ex-servicemen into civil society. Dr. Gameela Samarasinghe from the University of Colombo, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Social Services Department Basil Fernando, Professor Daya Somasunderam from the University of Jaffna, Professor Ravindra Fernando, UN Rapporteur Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy and a speaker from the Medical Institute of Tamils in the UK are also billed to speak at the conference.
