Dharmapala and Dharmadutha athletic champions From V.T. Raj - Badulla sports correspondent Dharmapala M.V. Bandarawela and Dharmadutha M.V. Badulla won the Boys Schools championships with 54 points each while Dharmapala MV Bandarawela won the Girls Championships with 91 points at the Uva Schools Track and Field meet concluded on Friday at the Vincent Dias Stadium. Bandarawela District won the overall championships with 358 points while Badulla District was placed second with 308 points at this meet organised by the Uva Provincial Council Education Ministry concluded on Friday with ten relay events. Bandarawela Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya girls equalled the Sri Lanka Schools record in the 4 x 100 meets Relay Dharmapala Girls, Nilanka Sandamali, Nadeera Niranjala, Imalka Deepani and Gayani Greta clocked 52.4 seconds to equal the Sri Lanka Schools Record in 4 x 100 metres. With this, a total of 19 new records were established at the Uva Province Schools Track and Field Meet 2003. Uva Province Chief Minister A.M. Buddhadasa was the chief guest and distributed the trophies. P.W. Tharaka Ravinath of Uva College who won the under 17 Boys 100,200 and 400 meters and D.M. Gayanee Greta Dissanayake who won the under 21 girls 200 and 400 meters were awarded the best performance trophy as they have reached the time standard set by Sri Lanka Schools. |
