Only 56 police checkpoints removed in North and East by our Parliamentary corrs Out of a total number of 1454 police checkpoints in the North-East, only 56 have been removed since December 05, 2001, Minister of Interior John Amaratunga yesterday informed Parliament. In a reply tabled in Parliament to an Oral Question raised by PA MP Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Minister Amaratunga stated that 1454 police checkpoints were operative in the North - East areas as at 05.12.2001. Only 56 such checkpoints have been removed so far. Minister Amaratunga had further stated in his reply that they intend to remove only one checkpoint in the future. |
