CR edge out Havies Scrum half Zulki Hameed scored a spectacular try two minutes before the final whistle as CR and FC edged out their traditional rivals Havelocks SC by 27 points to 20 in their Caltex inter club 'A' division league tournament second round match played at Longden Place yesterday. CR and FC collected their points from two goals, two tries and one penalty while Havelocks SC responded with a penalty goal, two tries and one penalty. However at half time the Havies led 12-10. Hameed made a superb interception and powered his way unchallenged covering a good 50 metres before falling over for the match-winning try. Roshan Peiris added the extra points and CR and FC emerged victorious after an exciting contest. Havelocks SC took a 12-10 lead at half time with S. Ranasinghe scoring a try and they were also awarded with a penalty try which was converted by Lakala Perera. CR and FC scored two unconverted tries in the first half through Tuan Bohran and Savantha de Saram. In the second half Fijian Thuruwa and Shamly Navaz scored a try each for CR and FC with Roshan Peiris adding the extra points. Havelocks SC managed only one try from centre R. Suranga in the second half in addition to a penalty from Jiffrey Saeed. Anil Jayasinghe refereed. |
