Southern Province Chief Minister H. G. Sirisena speaking at a function in Galle said it was a matter to rejoice that there was an end to bodies coming to the South. He also observed that the International Community which had no confidence in the Sinhala people before had shifted its stance. This he acknowledged was the result of the success achieved by the present government in changing the attitude of the International community. "They (the international community) have accepted that the government was doing its utmost in order to establish peace in the country," the Chief Minister said at the re-launch of Lanka Cement products in the Ruhuna. Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris was the chief guest at the function. The Chief Minister recalled, "I am a person who visited Jaffna before any one else and had a narrow escape. It was a time when the Salu Sala was opened for the second time and the manager was murdered." "There was war then. But today we can visit that area. It is a must that we end this war," he said adding that there certainly should be devolution of power. |
