'Bus baby' reunited with parents after operation Bangalore, Thursday (AFP) A Pakistani girl who underwent successful heart surgery in an Indian hospital and emerged as an icon of South Asian peace hopes was reunited with her parents Wednesday after more than two weeks. Two-year-old Noor Fatima was moved to a private ward at this southern Indian city's Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital from the intensive care unit and is on antibiotics and painkillers, a surgeon treating her said. "She is stabilising well and now is given both solid and liquid diet," said Rajesh Sharma, the surgeon who mended holes in the child's heart. He said Noor may need another six to eight days for complete recovery. Meanwhile The father of the child,Nadeem sajjad,35, said an outpouring of support had prompted him to become a "spokesman for friendship". Sajjad, said the Indian hospital waived the operation charges for his child and that his "Dosti" (Friendship) trust to support Indian and Pakistani children with heart disease was swelling by the day. "Now I will have to be the spokesman for friendship of the two nations," he said. "I have the responsibility to tell Pakistanis there is no need to carry years-old enmity. There is no need to fight." |
