Ananda, Vidyartha battle for Gopallawa Shield

Ananda College will take on their traditional rivals Vidyartha College Kandy in their annual inter school rugby encounter for the Gopallawa Shield at Longden Place today.

The Anandians are currently placed second in the Milo Schools 'B' division league tournament having notched up three victories over Zahira, St. Sylvester's and Thurstan. In addition they figured in a 13 all draw against St. Joseph's College and lost to Kingswood College Kandy.

But Ananda's best performance came in the early stages of the season when they beat the more fancied S. Thomas' College team by 8 points to 7 in an exciting encounter. In contrast Vidyartha College have had a pretty ordinary season having notched up just a solitary win in the Milo Schools 'A' division league tournament. The former president of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union Commodore Harsha Mayadunne will be the chief guest.
