News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Govt. has not reduced funds for education - Minister Malwana special correspondent The government has allocated Rs. 8000 million for computer education. 800 schools throughout the country will be provided with computer facilities this year and this number will be increased to 1200 by next year. Steps have already been taken to recruit 1500 computer science lecturers, said Minister of School Education, Suranimala Rajapakse. The Minister addressed the ceremonial opening of a two storeyed new building at Dompe Maha Vidyalaya recently. The Minister said that the human resources and material resources are indispensable for the development of education. Teachers and educational authorities as human resources are bound to perform their duty with dedication while the government is bound to provide material resources without any shortcomings. He said the government despite huge expenses on the national crisis never reduced funds for education and therefore children must make use of these resources constructively and become good citizens in future. The Minister said that parents should always encourage their children and supervise their education. Western Provincial Councillor, Gamini Gunaratne, Gampaha Divisional Education Officer, D. A. G. M. Hemachandra and the principal of the school, L. P. Karunaratne also spoke. |
