First ever Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist temple in USA

Sambuddhaloka Viharaya, the first ever Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist temple in the USA was ceremonially opened in River Side California by the Chief Abbot of Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya and Advisor, Dhamma Vijaya Buddhist Viharaya, Los Angeles recently.

Ven. Shibuya Subuti Maha Thera, Chief Meditation Master of Dhamma Vijaya Buddhist Viharaya, Ven. Weihene Pannaloka, Chief Sanghanayake, Canada, Ven. Walpola Piyananda, Chief Sanghanayake USA Alawala Subathi, Chief Abbot, Nevada Buddhist Viharaya, Las Vegas and Mr. Pradeep Gunawardena, Consul General for Sri Lanka in Los Angeles participated. Ven. Dr. Pannila Ananda Thera, said the Vihara was opened to everybody, irrespective of nationality or religion. It organises meditation session on weekends, Poya Day observance of Sil Pirith chantings and classes on ethics for children.

Ven. Wathugala, Saranasiri thera is the Chief Abbot of the new Viharaya.
