Meanwhile Renown SC and Army SC drew their games against Victory SC and Old Bens SC respectively. Navy SC coasted to a classy win over Matara SC debutants to the championship by 5 goals to nil. Navy's score was the highest recorded so far in this tournament. Java Lane SC also had things easy playing against Kandy's Hyline SC touring there by three goals to one. Air Force who went down to Negombo Youth SC last weekend did well to overcome another strong outfit from Colombo Ratnam SC 2 goals to one. This victory for Airmen keeps their hopes alive to stay on top five for a another week. Blue Star SC from Kalutara met the defending champions and the second placed Negombo Youth SC at St. Benedict's College grounds Kotahena on Sunday. After 20 minutes of play the match was called off due to an invasion by the spectators. The Tournament Committee will hold an inquiry into this incident and will arrive at a final decision this week. As this match could not be concluded the two top positions of the points table remain with Kalutara team in the first slot with Negombo YSC closely behind. This week too failed to make any big changes on the points table. As the fancied teams went through comfortably to win their respective matches. This weekend Blue Star SC take on Saunders SC while Negombo YSC will meet lowly placed Matara SC, Police SC take on Army SC which could be the best game of the weekend. |
