Helix diversifies into others areas of engineering Helix Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. was formed in July 1994, specially to cater to the Plantation Industry and started business with direct involvement in plantation engineering, which earned them a reputation as one of the leading and innovative players in this sector. Helix has now diversified into other areas of engineering including food processing systems, material handling systems, industrial automation, process control systems and industrial power solutions. Laksiri J. Peiris who floated this company together with a few friends in mid 1994 is the Managing Director, while Royston Ebert is the General Manager. Both of them have been holding senior positions in the past in reputed engineering firms such as M/s Walkers Ltd., Brown and Co. and Colombo Commercial Company. They have well-qualified and experienced personnel in their cadre and believe in helping qualified youth in their recruitment plan for their future expansion projects. Helix is now fully poised to soar to greater heights with a firm determination to earn a name for "quality engineering". Helix together with the Japanese engineers designed and produced an automatic Tea Roller in Japan to suit local tea manufacture. This unit was the first automated roller installed in Sri Lanka. Helix has now perfected a system for the minimum usage of power for the tea withering process by means of controlling airflow using PLC controlled Inverters. Several of these units are now functioning at thus saving substantial electric power. Together with their Indian principals, Helix introduced the Combination Drier for the first time in Sri Lanka. Helix has also installed the largest capacity tea dryers in the country so far. The 5 pass Heater introduced by them to the local Tea Industry is the most economical solid fuel heater today. The company has diversified into design and installation of material handling systems including conveyors, monorails and vibratory conveyors, for other industries with state-of-the-art electronic controls as well as the latest food quality belts and other components from Holland. Helix are the agents for fully automatic gas and oil Burners from Finland and these units are very fuel efficient, environment friendly and popular with the Sri Lankan clientele. Geothermal energy tapping using ground heat pumps is their latest area of experimentation. The company now has a fully equipped Electronics Division, which is capable of handling any type of industrial electronic equipment or process control system related work, large or small. It looks forward to the future with an open mind and is well prepared to manufacture most of the items now imported into Sri Lanka in joint venture manufacture with foreign collaboration, thereby saving much foreign exchange for the country and giving new job opportunities for skilled youth in Sri Lanka. |
