Exciting soccer fare at Kilinochchi

by Ravindra Seneviratne

A football tournament in memory of Major Murali was held recently among teams in Kilinochchi at the Central grounds after a lapse of 18 years.

All teams showed tremendous interest and some exciting football was witnessed. Watching the players it was obvious that there is a lot of talent and if they stick to the game could certainly stake claims to play in the national team.

Keen crowds that watched the teams in action, cheered and encouraged the players. It was a tournament well contested and conducted.

President of Kilinochchi FL, M. S. Sivanathan while thanking and congratulating the teams for playing and showing talent had special praise for Manilal Fernando, chairman, Management Committee FFSL and J. S. N. Anandaraja, Co-ordinator for the Development of the game in the North and East for providing them with all the assistance.

Kilinochchi FL is short of funds to keep the game going now according to their President, the soccerites and officials would be grateful for more financial assistance from the FFSL.
